‘Esme’

After that first season I realised what I was bred to do. Those strong scents just drive you wild.
Dad ( Human Dad, the Boss ), he has been good, he keeps teaching me new stuff.
It is great fun, I hear him say that I learn quickly.
I have to he always has something new.
I am now accompanying him up our field, each day we try and shoot pigeon.
I have to walk very slowly, then sit and keep quiet.
If the Boss is on form we can get the occasional passing pigeon, which I can fetch and carry.
He still takes mum up there as well, birth mum that is.
Each day we rise, really when I start everyone off with my barking.
These guys would just sleep forever. After breakfast we sleep again for a couple of hours.
Then we get exercised, this is great because there are Pheasant and Partridge up our field and woodland.
They don’t stay long when me and uncle ‘Zeb’ have been up there, we don’t miss many.
In the show season we must go for a roadwalk, that’s around 3 miles a day.
Out of season it is training, or up the shoot for our boundary walks.
Me and Mum have to bring those wayward pheasants back into the shoot from the boundary hedges.
Lunchtime we get another meal and sometimes I get on the Boss’s lap for a rest.
I think he likes it really, after all granny and uncle davey do it after breakfast most days.
We get Ginger Nuts at teatime and another meal at 9.00pm.
Then Proper Mum takes the oldies through to the other room, she likes different TV to dad.
I stay with Dad, Uncles, Zeb, Vinnie and Aunt Meesha by the woodburner.
We just rest and sleep in the lovely warm kitchen, on the armchairs of course.
