Pea Hen Visitor July 2011

We have always kept a few chickens at Ryanstock, with the odd duck.......in our case very odd.

Below on the right are two pure Mallard Runners, the drake (Michael) preferred chickens to his mate, so no offspring.

We have in past kept some old breeds and crosses and

still retain a small enclosure of veterans who just while away

their days dusting and chilling out. we get no eggs from these but they are nice to have around

Last year we hatched a few Guinea Fowl.

They are very noisy so it’s lucky we have no neighbour problems.

They have laid us quite a few eggs this year

Now we have a visitor,

a Pea Hen has suddenly appeared.

It dropped from the Oak Tree into the chicken run whilst I was feeding the other day.

It shows no fear of people or dogs

This is a picture on the left of

Vinnie in the foreground

with the Pea Hen and our

visiting horse ‘Owen’ by the gate.

Owen is owned by a family member and comes to help with grass management.

He is a star and loves dogs and people

These are a couple of pictures

of our visiting Pea Hen.

Whether she will stay or move on

we have no idea, all we can do

is make her stay as pleasant

as possible. She will get the full

‘Ryanstock’    hospitality.
