We have recently set up a statistical monitor on this website, mainly to see where we can make improvements.

Interestingly it has revealed that the main focus of attention paid to the site is coming from the USA.

So hi there all you folks in the USA and thank you for visiting.

Because of this I decided to provide a little more detail about the Ryanstock affix and why we are so proud of our achievements.

Looking at kennels in the USA it would seem that 20 home bred champions is a reasonable achievement for many of the breeders over there.

The registrations of Weimaraners vastly exceeds the modest numbers that are registered in the UK.

We now register less than 2000 per year and although I can find no accurate figures for the USA,

they were certainly nearly four times that figure by the end of the last decade.

It is clear that in the USA the Weimaraner has achieved greater success in the Field, Obedience and at Major Shows,

than Weimaraners in the UK and that is something that has always concerned me.

I am not sure whether the competition rules in the USA are more supportive of breeds like the Weimaraner

or whether in the UK the regulations prohibit their progress in the working disciplines at least.

Several people, myself included tried in a modest way to enter the world of obedience in the early days,

only to find that Weimaraners do not easily fit the criteria required for this discipline.

It is not beyond the realms of most competent trainers to teach a Weimaraner the required elements

but to explain the additional features of a perfect sit or a rapid retrieve will always be something that the Weimaraner will question.

My first dog would look at me and with his eyes he was saying, I am doing what you asked what’s the rush.

Whereas the border collie is keen and willing to please the Weimaraner is willing to discuss with you at length,

many early owners soon learned that if they wished to progress in this discipline they would get there faster with a different breed.

Field Trials in the UK has attracted around 17....yes 17 competitors as an average for the last few decades.

Dedicated owner/handlers strife to attain top awards in the HPR section which is still dominated by GSP’s.

The breed have only produced two Field Trial Champions in the UK since 1952 when the breed entered this country.

The breed has the intelligence and ability, so is it the trainers, the lack of a formal support network from the breed clubs,

or is it once more the style of work that is required by the regulations do not suit the way the Weimaraner carries out his or her duties.

Working trials and Agility are the ‘New Kids’ on the block in the UK and many owners compete in these areas and with a good degree

of success, still the top awards are the ambition of competitors and one can see the opportunities opening up for those who are dedicated.

Coming back to the ‘Ryanstock’ affix, we may seem like a small provincial outfit and small is something we wish to remain through choice.

There are and have been in the past a few kennels in the UK that have bred 20 champions or more.

But in the UK if you have bred 6 champions you are likely to find yourself in the top 20 breeders of all time in the UK since the breed was first shown in 1953. We have worked the breed since 1973, plus bred 5 champions and because we breed only sparingly the achievements made by so few offspring is, in the UK at least a record of consistency and a constant source of pride in the way that we have protected and developed this lovely breed.

Once more thank you to the USA for visiting and ,  have a nice day !
