Elaine had promised that I could have the breed of my choice and they were my chosen breed. We approached the Kennel Club who gave us three breeders to contact, one was a dealer, one refused us by letter and the third allowed us to view the dogs.

After our visit we had much to think about, it seemed that this was no ordinary breed and perhaps we were not suitable owners.

After much soul searching we decided that whatever effort was required we wanted to own this wonderful breed. So it was we found our puppy and called him Ryan.

He was all that was good and bad about the breed, he was truly a baptism of fire and caused us a few heartaches in the early months.

He taught us so much, we worked him in obedience and began showing when he was 10 months old. At 13 months we were given the opportunity to work him on a local shoot, he loved it and so did we. That began the search for knowledge in how we should train him for his many roles.

We were later offered a bitch puppy from Joan Matuszewska ( Monroes ) and took it willingly Monroes Ash Lady of Ryanstock ( April ). We thought we would at some point mate Ryan to her and continue our growing brood.

Like many dogs of those days Ryan was not to be used more than a couple of times at stud during his lifetime. He was used on a friend’s bitch and we wrestled with the thought of having a puppy from that litter.

We convinced ourselves that we should. We had our pick of the litter named Miroku Balfreo of Ryanstock, we called her Feebie, it was fortuitous because Ryan died before April was old enough to mate and it was Feebie that began the strong bitch line that has served us so well up to the present day.

Feebie produced

    Sh.Ch.Ryanstock Angnetha J.W. & Sh.Ch.Ryanstock Bramble J.W.

April’s only puppy Ryanstock Ashkanazy J.W.(Solo),when mated to Feebie produced Bramble.

His last litter to our Ryanstock Dawn produced Evening Secret who was Dog World/Hill’s Pet Nutrition Top Brood Bitch in the breed 2000

In her only litter she produced.

Graceful who was W.C.G.B. Top Brood Bitch 2002 had only one litter producing,

Ryanstock Hope & Sh.Ch.Ryanstock Hallmark JW ShCM

We began our breeding with no more than hopes and aspirations.

We have over the years refined that position through careful selective breeding.

We now focus on continuing to maintain and improve the Ryanstock line with the same enthusiasm that we had 34 years ago, yet still tempered with our maxim not to breed more frequently than we have in the past. We are serious in our view that our bitches and dogs are first and foremost our companions, family and friends. We try to be thoughtful about our Males. We will carefully and sympathetically consider any prospective bitches with whom they would be mated, wishing only to continue in our aims to provide benefits for our breed.

Every present day Ryanstock is a descendant of Ryan.

We would like no more than to provide some enduring qualities that may be carried forward when we decide to take a less active role.

We value the new owner as someone who may continue what we have started.

If we can help and encourage others by sharing any knowledge we have gained then we are only too pleased to be of help, when asked.

We began our search for a Weimaraner prior to our marriage in 1972
